LABOR OF LOVE THY NEIGHBOR

I’ve been working all Winter to reclaim some of my land from the wild – painstakingly clearing and shaping the grounds by hand. I’ve managed to get an accessible driveway, make a home for my beehives, prepare + plant out six grow rows, and carve out a pathway to my shipping container storage unit. It has not been easy.

On a morning where I was questioning all the life choices that’d led me to what was feeling in every part of my body like a dreadful existence, I received a big ol’ attagirl blessing in the form of Herbert and Monte. They were my new neighbors and my first human interaction out here. We ended up spending much of the day together – walking each other’s land and sharing our visions. They were surprised and impressed by what I’d been able to accomplish on my own. When I told them about the projects I still had left to do before the upcoming season, they quickly assured me they could make lightwork of one of my biggest stretch goals. And, boy, did they! They rolled up on a tractor filled with tools and got👏🏾to👏🏾work👏🏾.

They smoothed + widened my driveway, cleared additional parking space, created a small roundabout at the end of my driveway, and expanded my growing space. The two of them did in less than four hours what would’ve taken me at least four weeks to do myself. I’m so very grateful to them for pushing me into the homestretch and being further confirmation that I’m on the right path🙏🏾. In exchange, I’m working to be a blessing to them by getting their garden space productive for the upcoming growing season. Stay tuned for their garden makeover reveal!

  1. Tish, I’m so grateful for your neighbors as well as you’ve been working tirelessly since you moved your farm to Ellaville. Congratulations to you for what you have accomplished in such a short time. Much love >
