In this little, rural town, regular people respond to the needs and challenges of the times. I’ve been honored to start my farm workdays serving my hungry neighbors at a volunteer-run food pantry.

I helped pack food boxes before sunrise for community distribution the following morning. The line began to form outside our doors about an hour before opening. Everyone in line that morning received a bag of canned veggies, a bag of dry goods, a loaf of bread, a bag of frozen meat, a bag of potatoes, and a bundle of fresh turnips.

These mornings spent making friends and building community may seem trivial to some, but I need to contribute to this radical act of hope in the world today. I need to know that I’m actively resisting and meaningfully disrupting the system. No matter how small, it makes a difference.
