GROWING MY OWN TP🧻

Last year, when I set out to grow my own toilet paper and sourced plant cuttings to try rooting, I had no idea what I was doing, but was comforted by the fact that it’s in the Lamiaceae (mint) plant family. I still don’t have a clear understanding of what this plant needs to thrive in my environment, but I did have 95% rooting success on my cuttings and managed to keep my new plants alive through Summer.

Rooted TP Plant

I up-potted my rooted Plectranthus barbatus (aka “Toilet Paper Plant” or “Blue Spur Flower”) cuttings into individual one gallon pots and tucked them underneath my potting table in nearly full shade for Summer.

I was pleasantly surprised that they did well! The leaves are big, soft, and smell super clean – like minty lemony fresh. The experience of using this natural toilet paper alternative feels luxurious👑. Once I ran out of my homegrown toilet paper and had to go back to using manufactured toilet paper, it felt like a MAJOR downgrade on so many levels.

This month, I took a new cutting from my tallest TP Plant. I’ll nurture it indoors through Winter to hopefully grow some more “Charmin of the garden”. I have yet to master growing or propagating TP Plant, but I’m having fun trying and look forward to expanding my natural toilet paper production next year.
