GROWING FOR GOOD NIGHTS

Sleep is something I’ve never been great at. I am getting better though and take pride in having created healthier rest habits. This year, I committed more deeply to my goal of sleeping with the sun. This is a daily challenge, but I keep working at it because there’s no denying the improvements I feel in my body.

I’m always exploring natural aids to support my sleep goals. When I learned of valerian (Valeriana officinalis) a few years ago, I quickly went to work sourcing seed and learning to grow it. Valerian root is widely known for its central nervous system calming properties and is considered a natural alternative that can help with insomnia and anxiety. My first couple of attempts at growing valerian were unsuccessful, but I’m very excited to share that THIS was my year.

Valerian plant starts

My seedlings are still very small, but they’re steadily growing and healthy looking. This perennial herb will require a couple of years to put on substantial size for harvest, but it’s on its way and I’m grateful to be able to add valerian to my slumber tea blends soon🙏🏾.

  1. I’ve struggled with sleep, and most remedies haven’t helped. I’ll wait to try your Valerian plant. Thanks for sharing your interesting articles.
