THIS YEAR WILL BE DIFFERENT

As Summer creeps into view, I have a little less anxiety knowing that this year of growing will be different because WE’VE GOT WATER😭!! I couldn’t truly appreciate this first world privilege until I had to rely on catching (never enough) water from the sky and hand carry buckets upon buckets to hydrate every plant growing on the farm at the peak of Summer. Whew😮‍💨 I will NEVER see water the same again.

I thought the hard part was over once we finally got the property’s old account settled with the city water provider to activate new service. With city water accessible, we discovered that the property’s main waterline was damaged beyond repair. It turns out that more difficult than navigating municipal bureaucracy is hand trenching through compacted, Alabama clay. HUGE THANK YOU to Shannon, for pounding through our hardpan ground and laying a new main waterline for us!

We now have a water spigot and an extra long, filtered water hose that I can roll around to irrigate the entire farm. This changes EVERYTHING. I’m so very grateful. Bring it on, Summer👊🏾!

FINAL REMINDER: This Saturday (March 29th) is your LAST CHANCE to submit your Summer CSA application to enjoy Gump-grown fruits, veggies, herbs, and flowers with us!
