NEW CSA FARM SHARE PROGRAM OPENING!

At Uhuru Farms, we believe that in order to free ourselves we must feed ourselves. We (Black people) cannot rely on long-existing discriminatory and harmful systems to provide for our basic needs. Our community must work together to actively build alternative systems that strengthen our collective health and wellness. We need each other now more than ever🖤

With this call to action in mind, we’re excited to announce the opening of our new Community Sovereignty Agriculture (CSA) u-pick farm share program! Our new program is similar to the traditional CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) model you may already be familiar with, except for three major differences.

  1. Our CSA program is not designed to be a profit pipeline for our farm. It is a harm reductive, act of resistance for members of the Black community.
  2. We do not accept any forms of monetary exchange for CSA farm share food or membership.
  3. Our CSA operation is a u-pick. We do not harvest food for members. During designated group harvest dates, Farmer Latisha will guide CSA members through the farm to harvest their share. Members will be notified of scheduled group harvest dates in advance.

Our CSA program does not require any form of monetary payment. Members will receive shares of farm fresh food in exchange for contributing valuable farm inputs. Acceptable farm inputs may include:

  • Diverted waste (i.e. used cardboard boxes, spent coffee grounds, shredded leaves/yard debris, and more);
  • Farm supplies (i.e. organic soil, worm castings, non-GMO/organic seeds, and more);
  • Farmhand volunteering (ideal for those seeking knowledge and empowerment through cultivating the land); and
  • Land endowment for Uhuru Farms expansion.

CSA members will receive a complete list of acceptable farm inputs that we will gladly accept in exchange for farm fresh food prior to the start of the CSA season.

If you or someone you know would enjoy access to local, organic produce while supporting Black farmers in creating community resilience, apply to join our CSA today!*

*Uhuru Farms CSA membership application deadline is Saturday, March 29, 2025. Our inaugural Summer 2025 season will run May through July and will be limited to four (4) members. We hope to be able to expand our CSA family in future seasons.
