You might be asking yourself – what the heck is a kumquat and what is Latisha up to now? Valid questions😅.

Kumquat is an entirely edible, orange-like fruit. To no surprise, they are an excellent source of Vitamin C. As a matter of fact, these little fruits contain twice as much Vitamin C as oranges. They help to strengthen the immune system and are also high in calcium and fiber.
Last year, I expanded our citrus tree collection to include two varieties of kumquat – Meiwa and Nagami. I transplanted them into five gallon buckets and these compact, evergreen trees started producing fruit almost immediately! I hadn’t eaten a kumquat since childhood and Shannon had never had one, so we were excited for our first harvested handful.

As I mentioned, kumquats are entirely edible – skin, seeds, and all! Fresh off the tree, we popped them into our mouths and got a juicy burst of citrus. They were the perfect combination of sweet and tart. We still have a few more fruits ripening that we look forward to enjoying before the harvest season ends. If you haven’t eaten kumquats, you should definitely give them a try. Yum😋! Better yet, why not try growing a kumquat tree (or three) this year⁉️
