WE FINISHED BUILDING OUR GREENHOUSE!

What started as a stack of salvaged pallets…

quickly began taking shape in my head and, then, on our farm.

It functioned as a much needed shade house for most of this year🥵.

That was amazing, but I knew that I wanted and needed the structure to be functional in the cold season too. The clock was ticking, so we got to work cladding the exterior walls with pallet wood + salvaged roofing panels, adding a fresh layer of cardboard + mulch, switching out the shade cloth roof covering for greenhouse plastic, insulating the interior walls with bags of fallen leaves, and sourcing scrap material to build the Dutch door of my dreams.

We finished our greenhouse build just in time for our first frost! It has been a true labor of love that exceeded all of my expectations🥰.

Now that the season has officially changed, it’s been thrilling to compare the ambient air temperature to the interior greenhouse temperature. Most mornings, I open the door to keep the greenhouse temperature from exceeding 80 degrees during the day. I have Summer basil, tomato, eggplant, and jalapeño plants inside that are clearly confused because they’re still flowering instead of going dormant😅. My tropical trees (which are the ones I was most concerned about this season) seem to be quite happy inside. It’s a FULL house and I love it!
