AUGUST BERRY SEASON IN FULL EFFECT

Our red raspberry plants are exploding with growth!

BEFORE
AFTER

I gave our biggest red raspberry plant a hard, taming trim. From this one plant pruning, I got sixteen propagation branches and a big bowl full of leaves which I dried for teas. We’ve still got plenty of warm weather ahead for the plant to regrow, so I expect to get at least one more harvest of leaves before our first frost. It’s going to be too late to try to root more cuttings, but the new growth will help protect the plant during Winter for a strong Spring bounce back.

Two weeks later, red raspberry cuttings are showing signs of root development.

Did You Know?!

Raspberry leaf tea is high in protective antioxidants, supports digestion, and helps relieve menstrual cramps. It’s recommended as a tonic to encourage weight loss and is often sold as a detoxifying supplement to improve overall health.

This month, we also added more berry varieties to the farm! We’re excited to now be growing:

  • Fall Gold Yellow raspberries;
  • Navajo, Ouachita, Chester, Triple Crown, and Prime Ark blackberries;
  • Alapaha and TifBlue blueberries;
  • Pakistan and Dwarf mulberries;
  • Eversweet, Albion, Seascape, and Ozark Beauty ever-bearing strawberries; and
  • Miracle berries.

Our new berry plants are still quite small, but the warm weather has them gaining size quickly. At this rate, they should be plenty big and strong to power through the upcoming Winter.
