We setup some newly acquired bee packages.We went thru the colonies to confirm the presence of an active queen bee.We discovered a hive without frames where the bees had free-formed their honeycomb.We removed the wild comb from inside the hive cover.The comb pieces were secured to frames with rubber bands.The bees will build comb around the pieces to fill in the frame and then chew the rubber bands off.We discovered a swarm in a tree.The swarm was caught, but had to sit while we did other things – including making a plan for where to house them.My new bee school friend brought elderberry plant cuttings to share.We released a swarm that was caught off-site days before into a hive box.We setup + inspected more newly acquired colonies.The bees are super busy prepping for bee season!
