FROM TRASH TO TREASURE!

I searched our house for all the empty one gallon (or larger) plastic bottles I could find for my new mini-greenhouses project. Cut a hinge opening, add drainage holes, fill with moistened soil, sow seeds, tape closed, and sit outside. It was really that easy! This was my first time doing this, so I was a little skeptical, but these upcycled DIY greenhouses worked GREAT.

Check out my French Breakfast Radish (top row above) and Roman Chamomile (bottom row above) greenhouse jugs! I also used these mini-greenhouses to start arugula, spinach, and sage plants. In most regions, jugs can be put outside even in January and can be used to start chives, oregano, parsley, rosemary, dill, calendula, milkweed, echinacea, snapdragon, bok choy, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, leeks, and swiss chard – to name a few.

These little greenhouses are not only Earth-friendly, but they don’t require any space indoors, watering, heat mats, or hardening off. They’re basically magic. I’ll DEFINITELY be collecting more used plastic jugs throughout the year so that I’m prepared to put more of these mini-greenhouses into production next Winter/Spring!
