WOOHOO – WE DID IT!!

A few blog posts ago, I shared my dream of having a strawberry patch. This vision resulted in me OBSESSIVELY propagating my little suburban strawberry garden in Georgia into over 200 organic strawberry plants. No doubt I looked crazy, but believe it will prove to have been totally worth it!

This summer, we invested in a 14 foot by 48 foot re-used vinyl advertising billboard to tarp the area designated for our future strawberry patch.

Pulling back the tarp a few hot months later, revealed a beautifully grassless area prime for transplants.

After months of preparing my strawberry plant babies for this transition, it was surreal to finally be putting them into the ground on the farm.

I’m incredibly grateful for my amazing sister, Kisha, who took time away from her Florida farm to lovingly labor with me to get all the plants snug into their new home.

We amended each red clay hole with organic soil and organic chicken manure before watering the plants in real good.

Then, we mulched the patch with locally sourced, organic straw for ground insulation, moisture retention, and slow-release nutrients.

It may not look like much right now, but these things take time. Come next summer, I expect this patch will be bursting with berries! Ashe.
