GROW FOR YOURSELF

My norm was buying that jumbo bag of organic carrots from the grocery store to process and freeze some for future use. I started noticing that everytime I peeled the carrots or ate them raw, my face would start itching and I’d sneeze uncontrollably for hours afterwards. I’d had a similar experience years ago when I determined (through trial and error) that I could eat store-bought, organic apples without my throat itching only if I peeled the skin off first.

Was I developing food allergies at my big age?! Not likely. I believe it’s more likely that I’m allergic to the “organic” chemicals used to manufacture edible products within the system and/or the produce “wash” solution in the grocery store sprayers. The latter is a very plausible theory since I already know I’m allergic to bleach, but only learned recently that bleach is being sprayed out of the grocery store produce misters😣. This newfound information made a lot of things make sense for me.

With carrots now added to my evergrowing “Won’t Buy From The Store” list, I needed to learn to grow them. Carrots are notoriously finicky veggies to grow from seed, but that wasn’t going to stop me from trying. Once I learned that they were frost-tolerant, I decided that class would be in session this past Winter.

I wouldn’t say I’ve mastered carrot growing just yet, but my first harvest was something to be proud of. My farm carrots weren’t uniformly all the same shape, color, and size like store-bought carrots. (Now that I think about it, the extreme uniformity of those manufactured carrots is further cause for suspicion🤔.)

My first baby carrot bundle

My farm carrots were fresh, delicious, and nutritious. Oh, and most importantly, they proved that I AM NOT ALLERGIC TO CARROTS. There was no sneezing or itching involved in processing or consuming the carrots I grew.

This carrot experiment has me questioning all “food allergies”. Are folks truly allergic to the real food item or the stuff being sold in stores as “food”?!🤔 The only way to truly know is to grow it for yourself. In case you needed another sign/reason to do it, here it is.

GROW SOMETHING!
