THIS MONTH AT BEE SCHOOL

The frigid temps made it too risky to open up the bee hives. We never want to crack open their house and unnecessarily expose the bees to less-than-ideal temperatures. That could kill an entire hive. So, instead of working the bees, I learned to identify wax moths, participated in another mite treatment, fed the bees, and experienced a demonstration of how to render wax from honeycomb.

This month, I also finished reading Delaplane’s “First Lessons in Beekeeping”. This slender book was jam-packed (textbook-style) with information. I’ll have to read it again before sitting for my beekeeper certification exam in the Fall, for sure. I’m glad I was able to source the book second-hand, for just $6, to add to our home library. I haven’t decided yet which bee book(s) I’ll be reading next month, but I’m grateful to have lots of superb options.
