CUCUMBER CONFESSION

I expect this’ll be an unpopular opinion, but I’m gonna say it: I don’t like cucumbers. Yep, you read that right. I won’t go as far as to say I hate them, but yea, I’m not a fan. Though, if you were to look in my seed bank, you’d never know this to be my truth. My stash has multiple packs of cucumber seeds of different varieties. Why in the world would I want to grow so much of something I don’t love? My answer is threefold:

  1. I’m optimistic that perhaps, like a lot of things, cucumbers taste better homegrown than store-bought.
  2. If I grow more varieties of cucumber, there’s a higher probability that I’ll discover at least one kind that I like.
  3. Cucumbers are heat loving, so there’s a strong chance that they might not only survive, but THRIVE in these hella hot temps right now.

Bonus: I wanna learn to love them for their proven health benefits! According to the Cleveland Clinic, cucumbers increase hydration, strengthen bones, promote gut health, help maintain blood sugar and weight, protect against cancer, and improve heart health.

We’ve probably got at least two months left of cucumber growing season. That’s plenty of time for me to fall in love, right?! We shall see. If you have any advice or recipes to aid my cucumber convert mission, please do share.
